World War Z -- the new-age Zombie flick

World War Z

Not your typical zombie flick, but zombie none-the-less.

The film closely resembles the movie I AmLegend that came out in 2007 with Will Smith, where a virus took hold of society and turned those affected into a subspecies of human that fed on those unaffected (animals as well).

World War Z (2013) stars Brad Pitt who’s character, Gerry, is an ex-United Nations investigator who is thrusted back into work when an unknown virus takes hold of humans all around the globe and is transmitted virally.

The humans turned creatures are alerted by sound and move at a fast pace and mimic the movement of frantic ants that quickly take over any and every area.

Refuge is hard to find and the answer to what has gone wrong seems out of reach throughout the film, but Pitt’s character has a keen eye for what others would quickly disregard as nothing of significance.

I highly recommend this movie that invites you in to follow the ‘bread crumbs’ of how this nightmare began and will leave you on the edge of your seat the entirety of the film.

SAW - The Jigsaw Completed

In the past I have always avoided watching the SAW films, I don't know why, but I just did.

A month ago I finally decided to sit down and watch them over the span of a week, and instantly became entranced. 

The films had me jumping, cringing and tensing up as the games were played out on the screen. 

My friend Cat joined me, she had already seen all of them, and as we watched the confusion of what was going on was setting in deep.

Cat just kept telling me that I needed to get to the seventh movie and then all will make sense; but I couldn't help but want to make a list of who died and the time line throughout the films.

Which was anything but concise. 

Just like I mentioned with The Human Centipede, SAW is one film franchise that just needs to be watched, though you might have to look away from the screen some times as the graphic nature can be a bit too much; unlike The Human Centipede that, for the most part, had all of the unpleasant scenes out of view.

This is a psychological film that will have you thinking twice about how you go about your life.

Santa, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy, Sandman and... Jack Frost?

Rise of the Guardians debuted late last year but it wasn't until this spring, day before Easter in fact, that I decided to watch it.
Rise of the Guardians opens with the line, "Darkness. That's the first thing I remember. It was dark, and it was cold. And I was scared. 
"But then, but then I saw the Moon, it was so big and so bright, it seemed to chase the darkness away; and when it did, I wasn't scared anymore."
Then the last line heard before going to the Title is, "My name is Jack Frost, how do I know that? The Moon told me so. That's all he ever told me and that was a long, long time ago."
The story follows the mythical figures [Guardians] Santa, who's Russian with tattoos; The Easter Bunny, a giant, cute bunny, from 'Down Under'; The Tooth Fairy, who resembles a hummingbird; and Sandman, a silent guardian.
It isn't until Pitch, the 'Boogyman', threatens to invade the minds of children all over the world and turn dreams into nightmares that the Guardians are presented with a new Guardian chosen by the Moon -- Jack Frost.
One constant throughout is belief. If the children believe the Guardians can be seen and heard, but in Jack's situation he is unseen.
This is one movie that can be watched throughout the year and not be barred to one holiday. Follow this heroic and heart warming character as the discovers the true power of belief.
Which ends just the way it started: "My name is Jack Frost, and I'm a Guardian. How do I know that? The Moon told me so."

--Also, try to guess who voices the characters - I guarantee you will be surprised when you figure out who provides these spectacular beings with voice, with life.

The Human Centipede - the 'unwatchable' film

I dared to watch the supposedly unwatchable, The Human Centipede.

Over the years I have always heard about this film that was so disturbing and disgusting that I should never, ever, watch it.

Alas, I found it on Netflix a few weeks ago and hit play.

Throughout the film I was waiting for that moment when the film was to become 'unwatchable', but that moment never came.

Sure there were some crazy ideas, unthinkable ideas, and scenes that may churn your stomach, but nothing that would warrant hitting the 'stop' button.

As each minute ticked by I became more engrossed in the movie and began shouting at the screen; in the end though, I was left wanting closure.

Even still, while writing this, I want closure, but it's just not there.

I would say, "maybe I should watch the second one," but there will be no comfort in that.

The second film, The Human Centipede II is about someone watching The Human Centipede and deciding to try the experiment themselves in 'real' life.

I guess, to round off my rant, when someone says a film is 'unwatchable' don't decide to just give in and not watch it, because you may find it is a good film that doesn't warrant that title that the public gives it.

Watch this film and experience the madness yourself and form your own opinion and let me know what you think of this controversial film. 

Zombie turned warm bodies

I've never been one for zombie flicks, it's not that they scare me, I've just never cared for them. But this past week I decided to tag along with some classmates to see Warm Bodies, which I never wanted to see, but surprisingly loved.
The film had everything, it was funny, scary, sad, engaging and of course warmth.
As an unlikely love forms between zombie and human there is a beat of a once still heart; and with each thump I cheered for their connection to thrive.
Throughout the film I was on the edge of my seat waiting for what was to come next...
Hands bursting in the air, nail biting and the occasional shriek escaping my lips is what this film allowed to happen; which is what I believe any audience member would hope to get from a film, a good film.
If you enjoyed Zombieland go and see Warm Bodies and be prepared to go the motions of your emotions.

Twilight Saga - Story Book Ending (possible spoilers)

November 30, 2012 I went to go see the midnight showing of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2; the last film of the saga.
I was excited as ever to see the final film of the books/films I have grown to love, except this year I didn't have to wait in a queue to have a great seat, because this year I viewed it at the Odeon movie theatre in Kingston upon Thames, UK.
Though, even if I did have to queue, but couldn't make it to the theatre till it started I would still have found a great seat, and that's not a good thing.
I didn't let this deter me and my love for the glittering vamps.
The film was great! It had a twist that, to be honest, I was hoping for because the book version (where the twist is in the film) is quite dull; but the crew who made this film did justice and left me on the edge of my seat!
Then as if reading the book right there in the theatre the camera zooms in on the last page of the book, on the last word, "Forever"; making it literally a story book ending.

I insisted on staying for the credits and enjoyed every second as pictures of actors from the entire sage faded in and out, along with captions from the books pertaining to their characters.
While I have seen such endings with children's movies, such as Winnie the Pooh, it is a first I have seen it on a "young adult" film; and I loved every bit of it.

The end of a saga

Twilight the Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2:
I kick myself in the ass, as I checked the red carpet premiere date for London this morning only to find out that it happened as I slept last night! Then I found out the premiere for the release in the whole of UK theaters is Friday morning and I was greeted with the prospect of not being able to get midnight premiere tickets to Breaking Dawn Part 2.
Following the extreme disappointment of my own stupidity of not checking sooner about the London red carpet premiere, it's needless to say I was bumming hardcore.
But alas good news was on the horizon and there were still seats available at the midnight premiere at the Odeon theater for Twilight the Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 IMAX! I quickly booked and soon found a friend to go with--who I made quickly book as well. We even have assigned seats, weird; but at least it's premium premiere seats.
One can only gush.
I am proud of my nerdiness and am in fact a huge Twilight fan. (as well as all the other major franchise books to movie films, i.e. Harry Potter and The Hunger Games)
Although, unlike the ending of Harry Potter, I must say I am not too sure about the excitement of the ending of Twilight.
With the first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows there is a slow feel to the film as it lets the audience know the plot line and build the story up for the action filled epic conclusion.
But with Twilight, I feel it's the other way around.
There's a lot of action in the first one and then it slows down. Sure it has a battle scene in the end, but with Bella's "gift" it seems to be rather boring; but who knows if the director and screenwriters solved that problem that the storyline has in the book, then perhaps it will be just as epic as part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I thankfully will be able to find out Thursday night/Friday morning, and can't wait to see how everything plays out as the saga comes to an end.
